Is BizOps Chaos Preventing Your Business From Growth?
Business operations has been called many things, but “easy” is certainly not one of them. One thing a business must be to achieve success is organized.
A disorganized environment is more than just annoying — it is the cause of decreased productivity, loss of important information, and can even make you miss out on potential new customers and profits. Disorganization in business operations creates true chaos, and it can ultimately destroy the dreams of small businesses operators.
However, chaos can be tamed by establishing some basic office management practices. These changes are geared towards eliminating preventable chaos in the workplace so you and your employees can focus on building a better business.
Delegate — don’t micromanage — Be sure all employees are clear about where their duties lie and what they are responsible for. Then let them do their jobs. It may be tempting to grab the reins on every important project, but it will just cause confusion about who is in charge of what, and will take up valuable time you could be using to attend to other matters. If a job is too large for your team to handle, outsource it.
Have an agenda — Go into every phone call or meeting armed with an agenda. Send it to everyone in attendance ahead of time, if possible, so you can keep your group collaboration organized and to the point. Let everyone know of any research or reports they should bring to the table and ask for them to come up with ideas before you meet. That way, your meetings and calls can be less about planning to be productive and more about getting things accomplished.
Inspect the office — Take a walk throughout the office to see if it is in optimal condition for your employees to work in. Is everything arranged for maximum safety and efficiency? Can employees comfortably work in the space they’ve been given? The office should be a clean, organized environment that is conducive to productivity.
Prioritize business planning — No matter how busy you get, you should always set aside time to work on business planning. Meeting or communicating with staff weekly or even daily to review your company’s vision and goals will give your whole team insight on where you business would like to go and what needs to be done in the present to get there.
Eliminating chaos can make your business a more productive and more pleasant place to work in. Reduce business process disorganization for an environment that will help your business grow rather than hold it back.
